Blessed are those who Mourn

The days of our years are threescore years and ten; And if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, Yet is their strength labour and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Psalm 90:10.

A life of sorrow follows us around here on earth. Pains, aches and disease stream through our bodies. Sadness seems to hunt us down. A war today, an earthquake tomorrow. Killing and death are part of our daily routine. Those around us that we love fly away, and before we know it, we will fly away ourselves. Only a fraction of time is spent on this earth. A fleeting second is all that we have.

But then there is the New Jerusalem. Then there is joy and happiness forever. The Heavenly Kingdom with all its glory awaits those who’s hearts are close to the Lord. An eternity where there is “no more sound of weeping and the cry of distress.” Isiah 65:10. After a brief moment on this earth, we shall rejoice, as our Lord will wipe away every tear from our eyes, and death shall be no more. There will be no more mourning, nor crying, nor pain, for the former things will pass away. Revelation 21:4.

With every groan of pain or mourning, let’s remember what He who holds everything in His hand has prepared for us. Sadness and tears are temporary, the earth and all that’s in it is fleeting, but our God is forever, and our joy in him will be eternal.
