Scripture

Spending time with the Word of God is one of the most important tasks we should set for ourselves on a daily basis. Exercising your body in the gym is important, and so is feeding it healthy and fresh food. However, the bread of life is even more important for our spirituality and our relationship with God. Feed yourself with the words of the Bible and give your soul the nutrition it needs. An apple a day might keep the doctor away, but a verse a day will keep the devil away.

Making scripture part of our daily lives is not always easy, and we might need to pray and ask God for guidance and motivation to read our Bibles. We should schedule time, even if briefly, to read scripture, and we should commit to this time even if we do not feel like it. Pope Shenouda says that to acquire the Bible does not mean to keep it as a rarity on your desk, but to have it for your continual use.

The reading of Scripture is a great defense against sin.
Ignorance of the Scripture is a great misfortune, a
great abyss. Not to know anything from the word of
God is a disaster.
” St. John Chrysostom

Let us keep our Bible’s close to us, and let us obtain the blessings of the Word of God daily.
