Liturgy

As we attend the Holy liturgy, we obtain blessings that surpass our understanding. Liturgy is not just a Sunday habit, but it is a renewal of life and a spiritual boost rooted in the Bible. Our Lord Jesus Christ instituted the communion and offered his precious body and blood for the remission of our sins at the last supper with his disciples.

“Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body. Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.  This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” Matthew 26:26-28

During the liturgy we recite the Nicene creed, as an authoritative confession of our Orthodox faith. We also sing to the Lord, bless His name; and Proclaim the good news of His salvation. Psalm 96:2. We worship God, we glorify Him, and we bow our heads as our prayers are carried to the Almighty like the rising incense from the censer.

Finally, we partake in the Holy Communion, a divine mystery, and the sacrament of sacraments. “I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.” John 6:51.

Liturgy, or mass, is the weekly refresher we need. It is the nutrition of our souls and the basis of being rooted in Christ. We cannot live a God fearing life if we do not attend weekly liturgy, nor can we expect to grow in our faith if we do not make the Holy Eucharist a priority in our lives.
