Lord, Teach us to Pray

In the Gospel of Luke we have a scenario where the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray.

Now it came to pass, as He was praying in a certain place, when He ceased, that one of His disciples said to Him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.” Luke 11:1

It is good for us to notice the prayers of others, and to emulate them. Whether that be of our neighbor, or of the saints that we want to learn from.

Lord, teach us how to pray, is in itself a good prayer, and one we need to constantly pray. It is not easy to pray well, and sometimes we might find ourselves lost for words. God knows what’s in our hearts, but we must still strive to pray in proper words, asking God to give us wisdom in prayer.

May Jesus Christ enlighten our minds to prayer, and fill our hearts with the excitement to the duty to pray. May He give us graceful words to utter, and may all our prayers be set before Him like sweet incense.
