Jesus Shows Us Humility

He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself. After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded” (John 13:4-5)

Although Christ’s washing of his disciples feet was not a miracle, one could argue it is a miracle of humility. By doing this act, Jesus was purifying his disciples from vanity by showing them that the greatest should be least.

Jesus loved his disciples dearly, and he manifested his love to them by washing their feet and humbling himself regardless of his exalted state while confirming the promise he made to his servants saying “Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them” (Luke 12:37).

It is a great lesson for us to keep our minds low and humble regardless of our advancements or status in life. If Jesus himself rose from supper and washed his disciples feet, who are we to exalt ourselves above others?
