Jesus comes to meet us. To welcome him, let us go meet him. He comes to us in the hungry, the naked, the lonely, the alcoholic, the drug addict, the prostitute, the street beggars. He may come to you or me in a father who is alone, in a mother, in a brother, or in a sister. If we reject them, if we do not go out to meet them, we reject Jesus himself.
Mother Theresa: In My Own Words
Works of charity, based on our ability, are necessary to obtain salvation. It is the proof of our love, and they are highly important for the day of our judgment. Those that do not show mercy, shall have judgment without mercy. We have to show God our faith through our good works.
“For I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me….Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.” (Matt. 25:35,36,40)
Christ is among us more than we can imagine. He is in every poor or suffering person you see, and in every one in need that crosses our path. Be ready to do good at all times; only compassion towards those in need is not enough without actions and deeds.
