The Prophet of the Highest

And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Highest;

At the birth of John the Baptist, his father Zechariah the priest opened his mouth and said a prayer of praise, worship, and acknowledgment of God’s favor to his people. Zechariah also addressed the baby in his arms, and told him he would be called the Prophet of the Highest. Jesus Christ is the Highest, for he is God over all, and John the Baptist was his prophet, just like Aaron was Moses’s prophet. (Exodus 7:1).

For you will go before the face of the Lord to prepare His ways, to give knowledge of salvation to His people, By the remission of their sins. (Luke 1:76-78)

John came to this world with a mission to prepare people for the salvation, by preaching repentance and reformation. He also gave people a general idea of the salvation, so that they would know what to do, what to refrain from doing, and what they could expect. He preached that the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand, and that we can achieve it by remission of our sins because of God’s divine compassion
