“I cried unto the Lord with my voice; with my voice unto the Lord did I make my supplication. I poured out my complaint before him; I showed before him my trouble. When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then thou knewest my path…”(Psalm 142:1-3)
When David was overwhelmed, stressed, and persecuted, he was not ashamed to own the fear he had and the pleas he made to God. As he was hunted down, and hiding in a cave, his prayers and tears were strong weapons. There is no physical or mental cave so deep, or so dark, out of which God cannot hear our supplications.
Let no person, no matter how strong, or how powerful, think it any diminution to them, when they are in affliction, to cry to God, to cry like little children to their parents when something frightens them or hurts them. Lighten the grievances of your heart by pouring them out in front of God, and do so with fervency.
Do so loudly, or with the voice of your mind, because mental prayer is vocal to God, and he hears the pain which cannot be uttered. Humbly lay the matter before God, then leave it with Him. We tend to show our trouble too much to ourselves, aggravating it, pondering upon it, which does us no service. But if we cast our cares on him who cares for us, we will thereby ease our hearts.
Do not claim relief as a debt when you make your complaint to God, but humbly begging it as a favor. When your spirit is overwhelmed, and is ready to sink under the burden of grief and fear, when you are lost and ready to give up, know that God knows your path. He knows your condition with all its details. God know’s your sincerity, he knows the correct path for you, and he will walk you down that path according to His perfect will.
