And the Lord shall guide thee continually…(Isaiah 58:11)
Our Lord is the perfect guide, leading us through all difficult and doubtful cases. As long as we are dealing with the storms of this world, we must look to the heavens for directions at all times. Without this guidance we will miss our way, and get lost in the wilderness of this world. But God’s protective care will make our ways plain, both to what is our duty, and to what will be for our comfort. Let God be your guide, because when it is dark, he will be your vision.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11)
God know’s everything and he does everything to the counsel of his will. Many times we are not certain of our own thoughts, nor do we know our own mind, but there is no uncertainty with God. Sometimes we are afraid that God’s plan for us might be harmful; but he knows otherwise concerning his people. He knows that they are “thoughts of peace and not evil,” and even what seems evil, is designed for good. God works towards an expected end which he shall give us in due time. When things might seem at their worst, God will show us the perfect plan he had all along. God will always finish the blessings of his people because when he begins the way of mercy, he does not leave it half way. Ultimately we will find what we have long hoped and waited for. Not necessarily according to our expectations, nor according to our fancies, but based on our faith, and based on what is in our best interests.
And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night: (Exodus 13:21)
If God is taking you through a wilderness, he will not leave you there alone, but he will take care of you and guide you through it. Do not be afraid of missing your directions, or getting lost, because those who glorify God, and those who make his word their rule, can be confident that the Lord goes before them (Deut. 31:8), just like he went before Israel in the wilderness.
