Transition

“Today Hades cries out groaning: I should not have accepted the Man born of Mary. He came and destroyed my power. He shattered the gates of brass. As God, He raised the souls I had held captive. Glory to Thy cross and resurrection, O Lord!”

Vesperal Liturgy of Holy Saturday

Christ trampled down death by death. On this Holy Saturday our Lord descended to Hades, to the realm of the dead to bring them life once again. The sorrow of the crucifixion is not suddenly replaced by joy, but instead is transformed into joy on this day when the Lord leads our forefathers away from the kingdom of death, while paving a way for our own salvation.  So let us rejoice over ourselves as we are set loose from the curse of death with our Lord Jesus Christ.
