A Lion in the Road

“The lazy man says, there is a lion in the road; a fierce lion is in the streets!” (Proverbs 26:13)

A foolish person dreads the way (the streets) where work is to be done, where a journey is to be taken, or where a mission is to be accomplished. Such person might hate working on anything that requires care and labor. Sometimes we frighten ourselves with the illusion that there are difficulties blocking our way, like a lion in the streets, stopping us from achieving our goals or completing our duties. He who is not diligent in his worldly affairs, can hardly be diligent in his religion and service of God and others. Let us therefore not be idle, and let us work hard in our spiritual life, while also diligently attending to our worldly duties.
